RPA Hospital Public Art Masterplan & Tower Façade

Cultural Capital was engaged by Health Infrastructure NSW as Art Consultant for the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA)Redevelopment, a once-in-a-generation $940 million transformation of one of Australia’s most significant public hospitals. The commission comprised two linked projects: the delivery of a precinct-wide Public Art Masterplan and the ongoing management of a integrated public art commission for the new Eastern Tower.

Completed in late 2025, the Masterplan provides a high-level curatorial framework to guide existing, planned and future public art across the hospital precinct. Grounded in the NSW Health and the Arts Framework and international Arts in Health best practice, the Masterplan positions PA as a leader in embedding world-class contemporary art within healthcare environments. It establishes a clear curatorial vision, and sets out best-practice principles for commissioning, partnerships and long-term governance. Consultation with hospital leadership, clinicians, Aboriginal cultural advisors, government agencies and cultural partners ensured the Plan reflects RPA’s diverse community and its location on Gadigal Country.

Cultural Capital is also managing a major public art commission integrated into the north and south façades of the new 64-metre-high Eastern Tower. Highly visible across the inner city, the artwork is being developed through a collaborative process between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, honoring Country and creating a powerful symbol of welcome for all who give and receive care at RPA. Cultural Capital’s role includes artist procurement, stakeholder engagement, curatorial guidance and coordination with architects, builders and Health Infrastructure to ensure the artwork is seamlessly embedded within the building fabric and statutory requirements are met.
