The Blackwattle Bay Precinct is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create an outstanding public space on Sydney’s western harbour. The NSW Government, through Infrastructure NSW (INSW), is revitalising the precinct, transforming the harbour foreshore from industrial to public use.

Bank Street Park is the first project in the precinct’s redevelopment. This new one-hectare waterfront park will surround the southern pylon of the Anzac Bridge, providing a vibrant public space with a 30-metre-wide pedestrian-friendly waterfront promenade. The promenade will complete the final piece of the 15 km foreshore walk from Rozelle Bay to Woolloomooloo.

Cultural Capital has prepared a Public Art Plan to integrate public art into Bank Street Park’s design. The plan provides a curatorial framework for public art commissions, encompassing themes, principles, opportunities, and locations for works. This integrated approach ensures the park is attractive to visit, learn, connect, and play.

The Public Art Plan recognises the value of a coordinated approach to place activation and public art. Through continuous collaboration with landscape designers, Aboriginal leaders, architects, and creative industry stakeholders, a fully integrative framework has been created. This approach develops Bank Street Park and the broader Blackwattle Bay as a cultural landscape, telling the stories of its evolution and expressing its unique characteristics.

Cultural Capital is also leading the development of the new Sydney Fishmarkets, adjacent to Bank Street Park. This harmonious development will create a thriving waterfront precinct, showcasing the best of Sydney’s food, culture, and community spirit.
