Cultural Capital worked in collaboration with Event Cinemas, Touchstone Partners and Candalepas Associates to deliver a place-based curatorial strategy for the new mixed-use retail, cinema and residential development at 525 George Street.
Our work investigated rich histories of the George Street cinema and framed a curatorial strategy to explore stories of film, cinema, projection and light.
The scope of work encompassed delivering a Preliminary Public Art Plan and a Stage 2 DA Public Art Plan for approval by City of Sydney,
Topics covered in the plan included project background, curatorial framework, case studies, engagement, methodology for implementing the Public Art Plan, procurement model, artist selection criteria, artwork delivery, and project governance and management.
The final Stage 2 DA Public Art Plan was developed in consultation with the appointed architects, Candalepas Associates with the ultimate primary opportunity identified as an architecturally integrated artwork on the new building’s western facade.
