Cultural Capital was engaged to prepare a public art strategy for a new landmark tower on Liverpool Street in the centre of Sydney’s Central Business District.
Cultural Capital worked closely with the client Deicorp to develop the curatorial narrative and art opportunities. We also connected with Gadigal Cultural Knowledge Holders Danny and James Eastwood to develop the strategy for a significant Indigenous commission.
The strategy document recommended a process for the curation, procurement and delivery of public art. Key chapters included site analysis, development of the curatorial vision, identification of the location and typologies for art, a framework for procurement, a methodology for delivery, project reporting and establishment of project governance.
From neighbouring Chinatown and Thaitown, the LGBTQIA+ community on Oxford Street, the civic life of the Downing Centre, and the ongoing Connection to Country of the Gadigal people, the strategy aimed to be widely culturally inclusive for all communities.
The strategy suggested a landmark Indigenous artwork alongside integrated contemporary works and a curated video installation to respond to each of the diverse communities that frequent the site.
