Sydney Football Stadium Public Art Program
Completed: 2011
Client: Powerhouse Museum Sydney
For Sydney’s 2011 Art and About festival US artist Janet Echelman was commissioned by the Powerhouse Museum. Echelman brought her stunning work Tsunami 1.26, a complex net and cable structure, to be suspended in front of Sydney’s Town Hall, above one of the city’s busiest intersections.
To deliver the artist’s requirements and ensure flawless project execution,Cultural Capital’s Technical Director Harry Partridge worked with our engineering partners Partridge Event to undertake the final siting of the artwork; the project management, design, testing, certification and supervision of installation/demounting. This included rigorous design analysis, wind load certification, organising the closure of the roads over three nights and ensuring the artist’s wishes on the complex shape of the netting were fully met
