Herston Quarter Public Art Program – EOI Call Out for Temporary Program

September 24, 2021

Herston Quarter is a large-scale redevelopment project which will become a thriving mixed use health precinct over the next ten years. Located on the site are a number of state-listed heritage buildings including the Lady Lamington Nurses Home, Edith Cavell and Lady Norman buildings. This commission will launch the temporary art program in the quadrant situated between these stately heritage listed buildings.

This public artwork opportunity is for three external totem displays each providing a 3 sided sculptural canvas for artists to display their submitted concept designs applied in a 2D printed graphic treatment. The dimensions of the external totem display is 2m high x 1.2m wide. A 300mm space at the bottom will need to be left for artwork caption and site logo.

Cultural Capital, on behalf of Australian Unity, will commission three artists to transform the external totem displays into an engaging and creatively expressive surface with a view to bringing place-based stories, imagery and/or responses to the suggested themes to the site. The artwork will be on display for six months as part of the temporary program.

This outdoor gallery will provide staff, locals, visitors, and residents with an opportunity to engage with contemporary artwork 24/7. All 2D based media (painting, drawing, illustration, street art, digital media) concepts accepted.

Cultural Capital is calling for artists residing in Queensland or with a strong connection to Brisbane to submit their concepts to be considered for selection. To be considered for the project send you submission in a single A4 size pdf document with the following;
