Artmap Studio

Transport for New South Wales and Artmap Studio are pleased to announce Wynscreen (working title), a significant new public site in Sydney dedicated to exemplary moving image art.

Artists, designers, animators, choreographers and other performers working with moving image are invited to propose innovative concepts in video art, animation, dance, data visualisation and heritage interpretation.

Wynscreen is situated within Wynyard Walk, one of Australia’s newest and busiest transit spaces, scheduled for launch in 2016, linking Wynyard Station and the recently opened Barangaroo. More than 30,000 commuters and visitors will pass through this location every day.

Wynscreen is a distinctively shaped LED screen, Width 22.75 metres x Height 2.75 metres, installed at the underground mezzanine level of Wynyard Station’s Clarence St Entrance.

Commissioned artists will create a unique ‘signature work’ that will continuously enliven and enrich viewers’ experience of Wynyard Walk. The work will reflect the complexity of contemporary culture in Australia by conveying the histories that have shaped ‘who we are’ and ‘where we are’, and the dynamic social and cultural currents that are shaping ‘what we may become’ in the 21st century.

The Artist Brief provides a full overview of the Wynscreen project, including curatorial information, site details, and technical specifications.
