Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus has been a bi-annual event in Denmark since 2009, initiated by the Danish Royal family in association with the organisers of Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney. The event, part of a drive to rejuvenate the city of Aarhus, has been an enormous success. In 2015 more than 500,000 visitors attended the exhibition to view the works of 60+ sculptors.
This project involved the selection of 60 artists from a pool of hundreds of submissions from around the world. The curatorial strategy was initially developed in Sydney using photographs of the works and site, and later in collaboration with Danish project partner ArOS. Our Curatorial Director spent many months in Denmark implementing the plan and adapting to the inevitable event changes as necessary, proving both the robustness and flexibility of our approach.
