Photo: Shellworked Slippers (2008),
Aunty Esme Timbery and her daughter Marilyn Russell

We’ve been having a fantastic time working with Bidjigal artists Aunty Esme Timbery and Marilyn Russell. The mother and daughter, well known for their shell work, have joined forces for this commission.

The project is a major new public artwork. Our collaborative team includes architects CM+, who as well as being the designers of the building, have been integrally involved in our very hands-on curatorial process, led by Cultural Capital curator Cathy Drew. We can’t wait to see this work, which will be a powerful Indigenous statement coming to fruition in the near future.
