Artmap’s Creative Director Mark McClelland and Studio Manager Amanda Jelicich-Kane returned last week from a trip to Luanping County in Hebei Province, northeast of Beijing.
This part of China is renowned for the well-preserved Jinshanling section of The Great Wall, a section of which runs right through the site being developed by Artmap’s client. Equally as interesting, the district has served as an environmental buffer zone for Beijing for more than a thousand years, protecting clean water in the river and pristine forest on the surrounding mountains.
Mark and Amanda were graciously hosted by the development company, who familiarised Artmap with their incredible site and provided excellent hospitality in the northern Chinese tradition.
Artmap have been impressed with the developer’s vision to maintain harmony with the natural surroundings and to develop the site as a beacon of environmental and cultural education and preservation. We also happened to be lucky enough to experience one of the clearest days on record for the skies around Beijing offering us stunning views of the mountains and wall.
